Hello tantek
hello trovster!
http://paste.css-standards.org/1229 why doesn't this hatom parse?
i am using Outlook 2002
Any ideas? I get Could not parse sourcetree. From http://www.lukearno.com/projects/hatom2atom/
trovser, are there any error messages? and is that pasted code available anywhere so i can run it the hatom2atom converter?
briansuda: I can PM you the URL, don't want it logging in the channel
i think i am logged in, go ahead and try to PM me
I need a UK/European-based Microformat-ist so they're around while I'm working, not popping up about 1/2hour before I go home

wow that was nasty. the spammer put so much in the page that you couldn't do a diff.
tantek: did you manage to revert that page?
yep
the trick is
good, I couldn't get it to work
view the *history* for the page
and then *edit* the latest good version
make a minor change (like add a " " space)
and then save
it will blow away all changes since the version you edited
ah, gotcha
that's how you "revert to a specific version" in MediaWiki
I couldn't find any other pages hit by that spammer. Do you know of any?
I didn't see any in the log
besides the stuff you've already caught
btw, tantek- we'd talked about making dglazkov a wiki admin, right?
yes

what about demanding call records from phone companies?
hmmm I just read this: http://www.foolswisdom.com/~lloyd/wordpress/index.php/flocktails-brings-microformats-to-flock/ as posted on the list
there's an interesting shift
that could happen... the author noted that yahoo and it's subsidiaries publish microformats
which might read to some as an extension specifically built to help browse yahoo sites
except when it starts working on plenty of other sites too

if anyone gets a moment, i'd appreciate any quick tests on http://allinthehead.com/demo/hkit-signup/
enter a URL containing an hCard
if i ca get to it today
that'll be the wonder of Textdrive, i'm afraid
fetched for me
hows this thing supposed to withstand a nuke if it can't route around whatever issues i seem to be having
not sure what its supposed to do, though
no
not textdrive
comcrap
nope, can't seem to get to the server
briansuda: ping
kingryan - it's just a demo to show how hKit could be used - nowt special
have you tested it in safari?
no aim, no svn repository on my current project, and about 1/3 of the rest of net is down for me, drew
drewinthehead, it's working for me
except that it takes all the hcards from my hatom feed
I'm adding a type to hcard test 23
does the order with charset and type matter?
kingryan - should be fine in Safari. Sometimes it'll fail to find any cards thanks to the overzealous nature of Tidy
it shouldn't those are just parameters, like HTML attributes
ok briansuda
drewinthehead - it spins, then says "pick a profile", but then does nothing else
kindryan - what URL are you entering?
(well, you are kind, too)
http://theryanking.com/blog/
doesn't appear to work in camino, either
(at least, for me)
something odd is occurring there. works fine in safari and camino with that URL here. will investigate.
oh... now it's doing something... I choose my profile and it fills in my email address only.
thanks DanC ... back to the drawing board for me, I think!
hmm... x2v doesn't get my 1st/last name either...
N;CHARSET=UTF-8:;;;;
FN;CHARSET=UTF-8:Dan Connolly
it's a cool idea, drewinthehead ... assuming the idea is you can use an hCard to save time when signing up
sure, i'd be useful for filling out shipping forms etc, for example
DanC, what's the URL you are using that X2V fails, i can look into it
I'm not sure x2v is failing... I'm using http://www.w3.org/People/Connolly/
DanC', its because you're using the classname n
that turns the implied-n thing off
class="given">Dan<
hmm... did given-name used to be given at some point?
given-name
don't think so
no
chuckle... 404
ok, now http://allinthehead.com/demo/hkit-signup/ gets my name
I suppose if I'm comfortable giving lat/long of a nearby airport, I can put the country where I'm based on my homepage
while hunting for tantek's vcard to see if gives a country, I find "Plain old XML (POX) formats in the long run are no better than proprietary binary formats." bold claim!
I tend to say that XML solves 10% of the problem
which 10%?
unicode foo, backslash-escaping level stuff, and finding beginning/end of things.
not that XML really "solves" unicode foo, but using XML involves getting on the Unicode bandwagon, which helps
and I guess match="a < b" is not a whole lot better than other backslash-escaping level strategies, but it's sorta standard.
well, there are standards for binary fromats too
IFF
IFF a la TIFF? I hear scary things about TIFF. (not that XML isn't scary)
oh, TIFF is scary sure
http://epeus.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_epeus_archive.html#112838262830478654
IFF is a framework for tagged chunks of binary data, much as xml is a framework for tagged chunks of text daya
RFC822 is an extremely mixed blessing. it's fine as long as you don't need to parse the To: field reliably ;-)
IFF dates back to EA in the 80s
EA? (sorry)
and is the basis of AIFF, AVI, QuickTime and TIFF
Electronic Arts
ah
really? I didn't know EA goes back that ar
far
of course, that 10% comes with a cost, DanC
I guess the early days of AVI/AIFF weren't really discussed on the Internet
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interchange_File_Format
eek! how did I get into the position of defending XML? I have better things to do with my time on this rock.
heh
My blurb on formats I trust is http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-rdf-interest/2000Jul/0020.html , recently revived in http://dig.csail.mit.edu/breadcrumbs/node/130
sorry DanC
and the whole http://dm93.org/z2001/ToMacOrNotToMac open-vs-closed thing is near and dear to my heart
ooh... here's hoping the universe affords me the chance to buy Ernie a beer and ask him about that one.
markp said 'fire Ernie' the other day
Mark Pilgrim
d'oh
hmm... LOGO;VALUE=uri::/icon80px.jpg
^from x2v on tantek.com
the whole "sign up" thing is pretty near and dear to my heart, as W3C tries to figure out what to do about phishing, and all the identity 2.0 folks are re-inventing vCard and such
that logo value doesn't look very helpful
hmm... tantek's vcard doesn't give his email address
DanC: a use-case I was thinking of was the scenario where you want to get something shipped from Amazon to a different address, such as your workplace. pop in the URL and let the site go find the address.
that's a particularly touchy one, drewinthehead . the risk that bad guys will redirect shipments is a very, very serious one
but I guess if amazon lets you fill in a shipping address, they might as well let you do it conveniently
DanC - sure, but it's a time-saver so long as you have the user verify the data. you'd want that anyway in case they want to tweak the details (e.g. Building C)
is anybody working on openid for the microformats wiki?
not that I know of DanC
is there mediawiki support for openid?
I have a vague memory that it's in progress; there's certainly php code... let's see...
"# MediaWiki patch from NetMesh that also supports Yadis and LID, see in action at yadis.org, lid.netmesh.org, rss-extensions.org" -- http://www.lifewiki.net/openid/OpenIDWishlist
wow... the recent changes log indeed has URIs for people http://yadis.org/wiki/Special:Recentchangeslinked/Main_Page
nice
for your information guys, I just released the microformats logo in SVG format: http://remiprevost.com/images/wallpapers/microformats/mf-vector.svg
awesome, Remi!
richeous, Remi
righteous, even
the http://allinthehead.com/demo/hkit-signup/ doesn't do anything when I hit enter; only when I leave the URL field
ok, now it finds first, last, email, company, and country. I think I'll leave my phone number unpublished
DanC, LOGO;VALUE=uri::/icon80px.jpg is X2V failing to support relative URLs
drew, hkit-signup is very cool
briansuda, didn't we fix the relative URL issue?
hmm
i thought so, but maybe it was an issue with BASE
ah... maybe I didn't invoke x2v correctly
Source?
Enric is a media Software Developer and Videoblogger located at http://www.cirne.com
© it outside of what I consider safe XHTML.
hmm... now I get LOGO;VALUE=uri:http://tantek.com/icon80px.jpg
I guess that's right
i didn't touch the page ;)
yes, that's correct
drew, I have a suggestion for hkit-signup
how about defaulting the profile popup to the profile who's "url" property matches the url entered into the "your website" input box?
wow... http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/interact/forms.html#h-17.10 ... proof that you don't have to read a spec to chair the relevant WG ;-)
where's the magic that makes it go? I don't see any onExitField event thingies
make that http://microformats.org/code/hreview/creator
var myAjax doesn't seem to be used. I'm just learning JavaScript... am I missing something?
this does the binding:
Event.observe($('get-url'), 'blur', get_url);
I guess I've never made a form with more than one or 2 fields.
Is Event.observe part of the javascript standard library? or should I poke around some more?
oops... family time and then some
$ = document.getElementById
that's how the cool kids do it these days
aha... function $() { in http://allinthehead.com/demo/hkit-signup/prototype.js
rather perl-esque. offends my pythonic sensibilities, I'm afraid.
